AFRAD HEADS THE MARKET

There is some fantastic racing at Sandown Park this week-end and the feature race is the Ladbroke Hurdle run over two miles. The one that they all have to beat is Nicky Henderson’s AFRAD who won the last race at the Esher course on Boxing Day.

That race was over an extended 2 ½ mile trip but AFRAD was always going like a winner and took up the running going to the second last hurdle before going way to win in style by 5 lengths from the favourite Only Vintage.

He carries just a 4lb penalty for that success which looked to be value for double the winning margin and VC Bet believe he has an outstanding chance in Saturday’s race and make him their 5-1 favourite.   CLICK HERE

ALBUHERA HEADS THE MARKET FOR VICTOR CHANDLER CHASE

Following the latest forfeit stage for the Victor Chandler Chase at Cheltenham on January 28 sponsors VC Bet have seen further backing for Albuhera from 7-1 into 6-1 and he holds the market call over Sandown's impressive scorer Dempsey and Sue Smith's Town Crier who are both quoted at 7-1.

VC Bet's Neal Wilkins commented "Albuhera has been the one for money in the last couple of days and looks the pick of Paul Nicholls' runners. Another "live" horse in the last week has been Town Crier, available at 20-1 before winning his hurdle race at Wetherby, for which he escapes a penalty."

KAUTO STAR HEADS THE BETTING WITH VC BET

There were twenty nine entries for the Queen Mother Champion Chase and the market with VC Bet is headed at 7-4 by Paul Nicholls’ exciting young novice Kauto Star.

Moscow Flyer who has won the race twice is on offer at 5-1 and that could prove to be a big price according to VC Bet's Neal Wilkins who stated "If Jessica Harrington can bring her stable star back to top form the 5-1 currently on offer would prove very attractive to punters."

Jessica Harrington’s charge, who landed the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2003 and last year, will bid to become only the second horse - following Badsworth Boy from 1983 to 1985 - to capture the famous race three times.

KAUTO COULD BE CHAMPION CHASE STAR

Paul Nicholls’ Kauto Star proved a game winner of the William Hill Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown and was cut from 4-1 to 9-4 favourite by VC Bet for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “In view of the holding ground this was a game performance by Kauto Star who was running over fences for only the fourth time. He will only be six on January 1 and must have a huge chance of taking the title from Moscow Flyer who will be twelve next year”.

DENMAN SHOWS HE IS THE "REAL DEAL"

Paul Nicholls’ progressive Denman claimed the Grade I Challow Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year's Day winning by twenty one lengths and was slashed from 20-1 to 6-1 by VC Bet for the Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle.

VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “Paul Nicholls has always had a very high opinion of Denman and Ruby Walsh was certainly extolling the horse’s ability to anyone who was prepared to listen in the unsaddling enclosure. He murdered his rivals who had all shown a good level of form and will take all the beating at Cheltenham in March.”   CLICK HERE

LINGO IMPRESSES AFTER LAY-OFF

JP McManus’ Lingo who had been off the course for 680 days after landing the 2004 Tolworth Hurdle shot into contention for the Champion Hurdle following his 3 1/2 length victory in Cheltenham’s Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. Gambled on from 8-1 down to 5-1 and attracting a single wager of £650,000 to £100,000 each way, Lingo was always travelling well under Tony McCoy and came clear after jumping the last to take the best part of a million pounds out of the ring.

In doing so he leapt To the fore-front of the market for the Champion Hurdle and was slashed from 33-1 down to 10-1 fourth favourite with VCBet. Neal Wilkins from VC Bet commented “Lingo is very lightly raced because of his long absence and he showed that he possesses the right mixture of speed and stamina. He would not be the first massive improver to win a Champion Hurdle – Make a Stand comes quickly to mind”.

CHAMPION HURDLE CONTENDERS OUT ON SATURDAY

Last season’s top juvenile hurdlers Penzance and Faasel are among the five-day entries for Saturday’s Casino 36 Classic Nerak Hurdle at Haydock. They were first and second respectively in the Triumph Hurdle and have both been backed from 20-1 into 14-1 with VC Bet in the last week.

VCBet  Neal Wilkins commented “A bold display this Saturday from either of the protagonists would force them right into the forefront of the betting for the Champion Hurdle. Both horses have been significantly supported with us over the last seven days, no doubt, in anticipation of promising reappearances”.

Cerium Heads The Arkle Market   CLICK HERE

Paul Nicholls’ Cerium made a good impression on his debut over fences at Warwick when comfortably holding off J P McManus’ expensive recruit Garde Champetre and was left unchanged at 8-1 at the head of the market with VCBet for the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham next March.

A good fourth at the Festival meeting in the Triumph Hurdle his trainer reckoned he was over the top when disappointing two weeks later at the Aintree Grand National meeting.

VCBet’s Neal Wilkins commented “Apart from one mistake in the early stages of the race Cerium jumped wholly adequately for a novice and his chance must be respected particularly bearing in mind that as a four-year-old at present he will receive all the alloawances. We laid him at a big price for the Arkle after his fourth in the Triumph Hurdle and believe he has set a standard for the other novices this winter”.

Racing Demon Goes to Top of Arkle Betting

Racing Demon jumped to the head of the market for the Arkle Chase with VCBet after his impressive win over fences at Exeter. Henrietta Knight’s five year old comfortably held the challenge of chief market rival Chilling Place and was cut from 12-1 to 8-1 co favourite with VCBet

“This was a fine display of jumping and on a day that proved so tragic for Henrietta Knight with the loss of stable star Best Mate there could be a rising star in Racing Demon” commented VCBet’s Neal Wilkins.
