Very much one of my quieter weekends. It is all thanks to the man at the bank who advised me that the idea was I banked with them and not the other way round. Still allowed me plenty of time to lie on the couch and watch the football.

I think it was a combination of my age and the generally dismal refereeing performances at the weekend that was to blame for the unprecedented level of abuse being screamed at the telly.

Pires was first up for a burst of Burke bile. Actually I have no problem with a player 'making the most of a challenge' in the box but two things.
First, it was a pathetic dive in first place and secondly, he allegedly apologised to the guy afterwards.

Booby, if you are going to be a cheat be a good one. None of this “I’m sorry” pants. Maradona had the right idea. Commit hideous handball and tell the world’s press to get it right up them. That’s how to it Bobby boy.

On Sunday I had another rant during the Brum Fulham game. The boy Purse had a pathetic attempt at a right hook on a Fulham player who went down like a sack of spuds.

Now again there are two things about this. If you are going to land a punch, make it a good one. The other thing is, are football players a bunch of big girls?

There was a slight altercation in a pub a couple of weeks ago. A few right good punches were landed. Did anyone at anytime fall to the deck writhing in agony? No. You watch ice hockey or rugby and they are whacking the bejesus out of each other and yet no-one ever hits the deck.

Big girls blouses, the lot of them!

Until the wage fairy arrives (he is called Tarquin and is a very sweet boy) I am going to be living the life of a hermit with agoraphobia. Thankfully though it is Champions League week.

Even better is the fact that SKY now have got the rights to the games. This means being able to pick my game rather than being at the mercy of the ITV schedulers.

Consistently over last few years they have shown essentially meaningless games usually involving Man Utd. And trust me I am not one of the ABU brigade (Anyone But United) now at last we have some choice in the matter. Mind you, my SKY standing-order is due any day now, so I may have to speak nicely to Mr Bank Manager.

I hope it was a profitable weekend for one and all and I trust the pockets are full for this weeks games. I on the other hand will be looking down the back of the couch and becoming more like Victor Meldrew by the day.
